Microneedling is an effective non-invasive skin rejuvenation treatment. The procedure involves the use of a device with fine needles that are glided over facial tissue penetrating epidermis and upper layer of dermis. The purpose of the treatment is to cause microtrauma in order to induce natural collagen production.
Microneedling provides a deep exfoliation and collagen boost for all individuals. The treatment will help minimize fine lines and wrinkles, brighten overall complexion, as well as minimize pore size. In addition, the small microneedles are safe and effective for breaking up and smoothing old scar tissue, especially acne scars. Microneedling is most commonly performed on the face, but can also be done on the neck and chest in order to minimize fine lines, wrinkles, and improve texture.
When microneedling is combined with PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma), the down time is approximately 3-5 days. After treatment, your skin with feel tight, dry, slightly sunburned, and appears very red. Each day the redness will improve, with the possibility of some peeling. If the procedure is not done in conjunction with PRP, the downtime is longer, approximately 5-8 days, as the healing factors in PRP generally speed up recovery.
Results are seen quickly upon healing from the procedure. Overall appearance is brighter, skin tone and texture is more even and smooth, as well as a reduction in pore size. Generally a series of three microneedling sessions is recommended for optimal, but single treatment can be done to brighten and smooth texture. After a series of three treatment, often times patients will choose to have microneedling performed every six months to a year in order to maintain a more youthful appearance.
