Excessive sweating (also known as hyperhidrosis), is an unfortunate condition many individuals suffer from, but believed to be untreatable. Botox is an effective method for managing hyperhidrosis.

Hyperhidrosis is the condition of excessive sweating, especially outside of extreme heat or exercise. This condition can occur in the palms of hands, soles of feet, but is most common a concern in the underarms.

Botox works by inhibiting the nerve activities that stimulate sweat glands. Overactive nerves may attempt to send a signal to your sweat gland, but the Botox will stop this message, eliminating sweat production.

The most common area of treatment is the underarm. Botox is directly injected into the areas where sweat glands are most active in the underarm.

For the most optimal results, 50 units in each underarm is recommended.

Results can be seen as soon as 2-7 days. Full results are seen within 2 weeks. Duration can vary greatly between individuals, ranging from 4 to 12 months. Touch ups can be done if certain regions are still producing too much sweat.

The treatment of excessive sweating with Botox in the underarms is safe and effective and well-tolerated. Some minor side effects include discomfort and bruising at the injection site, headache, as well as flu-like symptoms. Rare side effects include muscle weakness and difficulty breathing.
